Alexander Girard belongs to the important designers of American postwar modernism. Next to his work as a textile designer for Herman Miller he fashioned many exhibitions and created iconic interiors such as the Miller House in Columbus. He also established a large collection of folk art which became the is the basis of the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe. Today the Girard’s old design assets belong to the collection of the Vitra Design Museum.

In 2015 Vitra launched the brand ‘Alexander Girard’ and with this the centerpiece of the new accessory product line. One of the many tasks in the context of the visual appearance of this new brand was the development of a new logo which, based on one of Girard’s sketches, takes his playful handling of symbols one step further.
